August Buch-Kromann is a danish conductor from Copenhagen. He began playing the violin at the age of four and played in various orchestras throughout his youth. During his studies at Sankt Annæ Gymnasium, August discovered his passion for conducting in a workshop with the Sankt Annæ Symphony Orchestra.
Since then, he has dedicated himself to music, and the art of conducting. After graduating from Sankt Annæ Gymnasium in the summer of 2024, August continued his musical development under the mentorship and teaching of Damian Iorio. His studies with Damian are deeply rooted in the conducting tradition developed by Ilya Musin, whom Damian is a student of.
Apart from his studies with Damian, August has taken masterclasses with Prof. Alexander Polishchuk, whom was assistant to Ilya Musin and today professor at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in Saint Petersburg. This masterclass has had an great impact on August’s latest development and view on conducting.

In January 2024, August was selected for Dirigentløftet, Denmark’s national talent program for emerging conductors. Through this initiative, he has taken part in masterclasses with several of the country’s leading professional ensembles, including the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra and the Danish National Opera (Den Jyske Opera).
As part of the programme, August has performed in concert with various ensembles in Denmark. In december, 2024 with Athelas Sinfonietta, where he performed "Shades of Silence" by icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldssdottir. In may 2025 with The Royal Marine Band and with Randers Kammerorkester and Ars Nova in the autumn of 2025.
In the 2026/27 season, August will conduct concerts with Athelas Sinfonietta in August and Nordsjællands Sinfonia in November, as well as take part in masterclasses with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, the Danish Chamber Orchestra, and a masterclass with Johannes Schlaefli at the Royal Opera.August frequently works as assistant for various orchestras and conductors. Most recently in April 2026, where he assisted Damian Iorio in an opera gala concert with the Royal Danish Opera Academy and the Royal Danish Academy of Music at the Royal Theatre’s “Old Stage” in Copenhagen.

AAVAAT
Since 2024, August has served as principal conductor of the Greenlandic choir Aavaat. They regularly perform all over Denmark sharing the greenlandic music tradition, and attract a large audience.Apart from its regular concerts, Aavaat also serves as a representative and amabassador of greenladic culture and music in Denmark and often performs at official events and ceremonies. They have appeared in multiple televised performances for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), Greenlandic Broadcasting Corporation (KNR), and TV-Glad, and their yearly christmas concert in Christianskirke, Copenhagen is recorded and broadcasted by KNR.
In the coming season of 2026/2027, they will celebrate the 30th anniversery of the choir with concerts in Tivoli, attending Nordic Choirfestival, as well as the yearly concert in Christianskirken.
